Dr. Nagpal Receives ISL Grant to Study Gut-Brain Axis and Cognitive Health
Dr. Nagpal has been awarded a 2025–2026 Planning Grant from Florida State University’s Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL) to support a timely research project on aging and cognitive health.
The project, “Unraveling the gut-microbiome-brain axis elements through multi-omics assessments in older adults with mild cognitive impairment,” will investigate how gut microbiome changes influence brain function and cognitive decline during aging. Using an advanced multi-omics approach, Dr. Nagpal and co-investigator Dr. Julia Sheffler aim to identify diet-microbiome links to cognitive aging and develop scalable nutrition interventions to improve brain and gut health—especially for underserved rural populations.
